We struggled for a location to hold the third in our series of internet workshops. It had to be in the South of the county and it had to have internet access, preferable wireless (wifi). We had 25 delegates and we would have liked to have held it in Ludlow, but we were getting nowhere with the venues in the town itself.

Late getting broadband, South Shropshire has lagged behind in the internet revolution, but we discovered a gem, a few miles north of Ludlow right on the A49.

WiFi Internet Access

Our booking was enough to tip them over the edge and set up a BT Openzone WiFi connection in the Boardroom. Signal strength was perfect and my Dell laptop with a Wifi card built-in picked up the connection immediately. Full marks in this department.

The Boardroom

With 25 sat round the room, it was certainly full in a U style set up, although 40 can be accommodated in theatre style. Everything was new. The wooden flooring, furniture, the projection screen and everything was in perfect condition. The self contained suite had its own toilet facilities (but no lock on the door?!!) and was very well finished with its own entrance away from the gastro-pub.

With a room full of people, the temperature towards the end of the day was getting very high, but all the windows open and the french doors at one end of the room could be opened without the noise of the A49 drowning out the speaker.

Coffee and tea is served in the room, but breaking out to the bar for lunch is well worth it.

Conference Food at the Clive

The lunch was excellent, we took our break in the bar area which was set aside just for our delegates. Having been disappointed at a previous venue, the food at the Clive was very good indeed. A nice selection of sandwiches and pork pie was complimented by handmade potato crisps. They also catered admirably for delegates with wheat allergies and vegetarians.

Service with a Smile

Nothing was too much trouble. The staff really went the extra mile to ensure our day was a success, taking time to talk to us about what we wanted and making sure we got it.

Summary

A real find, and easy to find. Well worth considering for any event up to around 25 delegates.
